Lovey Repair is taking a Holiday!

First, we wanted to give a special shout out to Ba and Reggie - two more Loveys who have a special Christmas reservation to come to Lovey Repair in January - we can't wait to meet you!!

Meanwhile it's been a very busy season for Lovey repair and so we're taking some time off until the new year.  Time to quilt, bake, sleep, and get cozy.

We'll also be working on our new favorite hobby - making bobbin lace!

Thanks to Ellyane for coming in to the city to give Amalia a private lesson in lace making for her birthday. She had been asking to learn since we say Ellyane's demo in October, and now we're both hooked.

Or, at least, bobbined.

Please continue to email us your inquiries and just know that we'll be scheduling repairs beginning in the new year!

D'aboon Deserves D'best!

This is a special Lovey Repair message for a sweet monkey named D'aboon!

We heard from a friend of yours that you needed some time away to refresh a bit.

I do.

And so we wanted to surprise your owner with a special Christmas message! Everything's been arranged - you're coming to Lovey Repair! We can't wait to see you in the new year!

Wheee!!! Can you even fix the hole under my arm?

Yep - we can!!

Merry Christmas, D'aboon - you're clearly one very lucky, very loved monkey (with the BEST name!) and we can't wait to meet you!

Perfect Patty!

Being a lovey is hard work.

It is.

Because, let's be honest, all that snuggling and cuddling and loving can leave a lovey a bit drained.

It's true.

Thankfully we specialize in refreshing, relaxing, restorative spa days where loveys like Patty Dog can recharge!

The bath was my favorite part.  No, the brushing.  Definitely the brushing!!

Thanks for letting us pamper you, Patty Dog!  It was a treat to have you visit!

Things in Common...

We have a lot in common with Mickey's owner.

We've also had our Loveys almost our whole lives.

We also know how much love it takes to make a Lovey fall apart!

And, totally by coincidence, we both know and love the folks at the Kennedy Kreiger Institute. What a small world!

With so much in common it was no surprise that Mickey arrived at Lovey Repair for a fast fix - we needed to get him back in his owner's hands asap and we were up to the task!

Mickey really looked worse than he was.

That's generous of you.

But really all Mickey needed was a bath, patching, some new gloves, and his eyes re-painted!  Piece of cake!

Yippee! I feel great!

Mickey, time to head back home for many more years of love - we think you're totally ready for a cuddle! Thanks for visiting!!

The Great Gunds!

Meet Gund and New Gund! Underneath their tiredness were two beautiful bears.

It's true. We're really pretty. And cuddly!

Time for a bath, new eyes, noses, and a few repaired seams and two replaced smiles!

Grin!

Thanks you two! Hope you enjoyed your vacation at Lovey Repair!

Eye to Eye with Meribel the Bunny

Sometimes a Lovey's injury is not entirely evident. Take Meribel, for instance.

At first glance, she's perfect.

Totally and completely.

But then...

Oh right. That.

Meribel is our newest member of the "I was Nibbled but Lived to Tell" survivors club.

Proud member since 2012.

Fortunately we have a nice stash of eyes!! With some careful needlework we were able to return Meribel to 20/20!

Yippee!

Thanks for visiting, Meribel!!

Shhh! Cuddles is Sleeping!!

Don't wake up Cuddles! He's an old soul and he needs his rest. Especially cause he has a sad tear in his neck and a wonky tail!

 Zzzzzz....

We very quietly and very carefully stitched him up, and now he's all ready to sleep next to his Owner's new baby.

Sweet Dreams, Cuddles! Hope you had a nice rest here!

A Repair for Broken Eggy!

Eggy flew in to visit us from Burbank, California because he had seen better days.

I've just been feeling a bit Humpty Dumpty.

Poor Eggy - we can put you back together again!! You just need a bath and a brush and a patch to replace that missing spot of fabric (pink, of course!)

Good as new!

Glad I decided against the King's horses and men!

Us too!  Thanks for taking the long flight to see us!!

Stuart: The Exception that Proves the Rule

Meet Stuart.

Stuart is the dog.

Stuart is the second-luckiest animal we know because he has his very own Lovey that he takes everywhere and licks and cuddles and loves.

Meet Kitty.

Kitty is the cat.

Kitty is the luckiest animal we know because she has not only survived, she's THRIVED under Murray's care.

No mauling. No lost eyeballs. Just a little busted neck seam from all that love.

I'm amazing.

Kitty had a bath and a stitching and a combing, because dog Loveys are Loveys too.

We're in awe. Stuart, you are the except that proved the rule that given the opportunity, dogs will chew Loveys to bits.

And Kitty, you're one in a million.

Thanks. I know!

Thanks for visiting Kitty!

Elegant Ellie!

If you're in Amalia's class and you have a Lovey that needs repair, you're in luck!

Ellie needed a little spa day and all of the details were arranged in class.

It's good to have friends!

She came home with us, and after a bath and a brush and some patched seams, she was ready for a morning commute bad to school!

Whee!  I love the subway!

Thanks for visiting Ellie - it's always nice to help out a friend!

A Family Reunion!

Titi came to us with some pretty serious damage but we recognized her instantly! She was clearly Classical's sister and we were familiar with the repair. Classy had the same fix - seems like dangly limbs run in the family!

It's ok. These things happen.

We got Titi stitched right up and back into shape.

Ah. That's better.

Then it was time for some family cuddling!

Thanks for stopping by Titi. It's always nice to have family visit!!

Fixing a Broken Spirit!

You know what we do with horse with a broken leg, right?

Um...

We fix it, of course!!!

Why, what were YOU thinking?

Spirit came to us with a bandaged hoof, and underneath was a popped seam:

Clip clop, clip ow!

With just a few stitches and a little brushing he was ready to head back upstate, all ready for some more love!

Post-repair morning cuddles!

Thanks for visiting us Sprit!

Stealing our Hearty!

Hearty got his name a long, long time ago because he used to have little pink hearts on him. But over the years they faded almost all away. He is so loved and had been patched and sewn so many times that it was hard to tell what he actually looked like!

Our job was to restore Hearty where we could, patch him where we needed, and make sure he was loved the whole time he was away from his Owner!

The first step was to take off the big patches that bound him up. He used to have eyelet lace...

I'm here! On the bottom!

so the next stop was to Mood Fabrics to try to match the old lace to some new!

We we repair loveys we never cut throw any piece away - even old patches! For Hearty we turned the old patches into bias tape and sewed in the new lace. We then hand-stitched the tape over the existing edges to protect them.

Next was Hearty's insides. He was so thin that we needed to insert a bit of thin quilt batting to make him strong and give us something to sew patches through.

Patching time! We did two things. First, we took thread and wove small patches on threadbare areas. Very delicate!

Next we added some namesake heart patches out of pink satin. We added a bit of fluff to make them extra cuddly. Tucked inside the big patch is the swatch of the old eyelet lace we used at the store!

After some final stitches hearty was ready to return home.

We miss you already, Hearty! You're a really wonderful lovey!

Hip the Hippo Loses his Mind!

When you're a big, strong hippo there's hardly anything that can ruin your day.

Right, Hip?

Right.
Hardly anything.

Poor Hip was feeling a bit lightheaded! Fortunately, it only took a few stitches to get it screwed on just right.

Ah.  Better.

Piece of cake, Hip.  Thanks for stopping in!

From Puffa-lumpy to Puffa-perfect!

Some toys are classics, like the 1980s Puffalumps!

While you "can't hug them wrong" these sweet Puffalumps clearly showed us that they can wear out.  They are so soft and silky but that means that their seams give way too easily!  And although they were clean, all that laundering over the years made their filling super lumpy and deflated.

We've lost our pep.

And our backsides!

Past seam repairs were doing the trick, but these Puffalumps really needed some finer stitching - some cosmetic surgery!

So, after a wash and a re-stuff, we used a super fine needle to hid all of the little stitches we needed to make these Puffalumps as good as new!

Thanks for visiting you guys! We had a lot of fun hugging and cuddling and fixing you both!
